A love of quilting brings together people from around the world, and transcends all boundaries. Quilters of all nationalities, faiths and backgrounds can appreciate a beautiful quilt, and the work that goes into it. We also can share our love of quilting through blogs and websites that connect us with quilters in many countries. To celebrate the universal fellowship of quilters we'll be sharing Christmas quilts from 9 different countries, starting with Canada.
Advent Calendar Angel, 19.5 x 21.5", by Ursula Riegel at Designs to Share (Victoria, B.C., Canada)
This delightful wall hanging features a Christmas Angel in the center carrying two gifts surrounded by 22 more gift packages - each a little pocket just waiting to be filled with goodies for the child in your life. What a wonderful way to welcome the holidays! The pattern uses freezer paper appliqué for the angel and an assortment of fabrics, ribbons and trim for the gifts. For details see the Advent Calendar Angel pattern page.
Ursula Riegel lives and works on beautiful Vancouver Island. In 1991 she took her first formal quilting class because she wanted to learn the art of quilt making before the “fad” was over (since the fad wasn't over, she began teaching and designing!) You can see a video of Ursula from the Great Canadian Shop Hop. Her beautiful and unique patterns include patchwork and paper piecing, applique and reverse applique, and innovative techniques. Here are a few of our favorites: Flying High, In the Mist, Mai Bonsai, and Inner Quest.
