The Last Supper, 39 x79", by Jeanie Ferguson (California)
We were very impressed by Jeanie Ferguson's magnificent work when we saw it at the 2014 Pacific International Quilt Festival. Jeanie explains about her original design, "It is needle-turn appliqued, hand quilted, trapuntoed, and back-quilted, with embroidery and Tsukineko inks for embellishment. I have visited The Upper Room in Jerusalem where this Supper took place."
Close-up, The Last Supper by Jeanie Ferguson
Here you can see the stitching on the face of Christ as He announces, " I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me." (John 13:21) Jeanie adds, "Da Vinci's depiction in the year 1495 of that agonizing moment is recreated in my 15 months of intense, 3-hour-per-day handwork. With this quilt, I give presentations to churches in my community. I won Best of Show (2014) at my local guild."
