If you were asked to create a work of fiber art representing a work of a famous painter, or to make a design of your own choice in the style of that painter, what would you create? This
World Painters Challenge was issued to groups of quilters in Japan, France and the U.S (for details, scroll to the bottom of this post.) This outstanding exhibit is touring
AQS QuiltWeek throughout 2016.
Katsushika Hokusai

Fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLovely work all round!
ReplyDeleteBut it is a shame they couldn't have used a real translator for the Artists' Statements, instead of Google Translate.
These were the translations supplied to us by both the Japanese and French quilters. We didn't have much control over that part.
DeleteHow utterly charming! I've followed this blog for a long time, but these quilts have touched my heart. The artists, both paint and cloth, should be proud!
ReplyDeleteOne of my quilting friends is a part of this group. The topics they choose are always fun and challenging and it is so nice to see them here on your post.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the exhibit.

The real thanks goes to Izumi Takamori, who is the originator of these challenges. I consider myself fortunate to have participated in many of them. Did you see the article in the May edition of American Quilter Magazine?
DeleteYes we did ! We're so glad that "American Quilter" decided to feature this outstanding series of challenge quilts. So interesting !
DeleteWhat beautiful work!
