Silent Night

Silent Night is one of our favorite Christmas carols!  Here is an award-winning quilt featuring four winter woodland scenes, done in a folk art style. The third panel shows a brightly lit church with an angel flying overhead.

Silent Night, Holy Night.
All is calm, all is bright.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

Silent Night, made and quilted by Luanne Wood.

This quilt shows a variety of appliqued activities that are enjoyed on winter nights and surrounds them with cozy log cabin blocks, which were machine quilted with snowflakes.  Luanne Wood was awarded a 2nd place ribbon for her expert applique and quilting.

The gorgeous details can be seen in these closeup photos! The pattern source is Silent Night from Timeless Traditions by Norma Whaley. Luanne Wood says, "I chose to embellish the applique with beads and poms, etc. to add a bit of whimsy."  Luanne won a 2nd place award (with a red ribbon) for her achievement.

Welcome to the North Pole !

Christmas is a special time of year, and the North Pole is a magical place. Here's the North Pole on an enchanted night as Santa takes off in his sleigh through the star-filled heavens. This quilt features whimsical houses made in fanciful styles. We’d like to go to this happy, colorful village every day of the year.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

Welcome to the North Pole by Susan Hepworth, quilted by Karen Morgan

Susan Hepworth says, "A friend and I challenge ourselves to make a new quilt each year. It was fun choosing what we wanted, putting it all together and stitching it!  This was a two-year challenge, but we had a great time and now each have a fun quilt to put up at Christmas!"

The Welcome to the North Pole pattern is by Piece O' Cake Designs, and it was first published in 1997. We previously featured this design in a Christmas 2010 blog post (my oh my, how time flies!)

O Holy Night

This beautifully made quilt is full of details.  Each tree has a unique miniature quilt block, and the sashing has hand-embroidered lettering.  The lyrics are from a Christmas carol composed in 1847 by the French composer Adolphe Adam:

O Holy Night, the Stars are Brightly Shining
It is the Night of our Dear Savior's Birth.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

O Holy Night, made and quilted by Charlene Nelson.

Charlene Nelson says, "I found the 4.5 inch miniature blocks in books, mostly by Judy Hopkins.  I hand-embroidered the letters using two strands of different threads and added the 3-inch stars in the sashing.  Our 'Gone to Pieces' quilt group did this as a quilt-along starting this January.  They are all very different."

Machine-stitched snowflakes echo the snowflake designs in the background fabric.

A Vintage Christmas Quilt

This glorious Vintage Christmas quilt has 30 pieced blocks!  There are so many adorable themes, including a church, snowman, Santa Claus, Rudolph, a puppy dog, and smiling girl.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

Vintage Christmas, made and quilted by Cindi Huff

Cindi Huff says, "This is the most joyful quilt I have ever made! Quilting it was so much fun. Look for the sun rays shining on baby Jesus and the train engineer."

Santa's beard is made with red & white printed fabric that spells out a recipe for gingerbread cookies. Several of the blocks have embroidery details, including the smiling girl, below.

Here is the gingerbread man, whose head is made from a snowball quilt block. The white rick rack trim and polka dot buttons are the perfect embellishments.

Feather Fancy

Quilted wreaths can be made either with piecing or with applique. Here is one of the most beautiful of all quilted wreaths, made with dozens of appliqued 'feathers'. Janice Jones did an amazing job with this heirloom creation; we admire her excellent needleturn applique work.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

Horse Feathers, made and quilted by Janice Jones

This quilt is made with needleturn applique. Janice Jones explains, "The title of the quilt is from my dad, who muttered 'horsefeathers' in frustration. Making each feather with tiny points, 'Horse Feathers' fit perfectly. Buttons were added for holly berries and piping [was used] in the borders."

A Christmas Sampler

Is there anything more fun than a Christmas sampler quilt? Here are Santa hats, hearts, peppermints, packages, stars, trees, and stockings. We love the very cute Christmas fabrics.

Christmas Sampler by Kara Southwick, quilted by Charlene Nelson

Kara Southwick says, "I made this quilt for my newly married daughter.  I love Christmas and collecting Christmas fabrics and patterns.  The idea of a sampler was too tempting and I enjoyed making this.  My mother, Charlene Nelson, quilted it.  It turned out amazing."

The tree blocks are made with half-square triangles, as are the friendship stars!

The Joy of Christmas

Today's theme is the Joy of Christmas, which is the title of this gorgeous wall quilt. It features ornaments, a tree with angel, gingerbread house, Santa Claus, and many more holiday motifs. We admired the beautiful hand applique work in each of the blocks.

Note: Please check out our eBay shop for great bargains on jewelry, fabric, and collectible items!

The Joy of Christmas by Kay Walen, quilted by Whisper Stitch Studio.

This quilt is a combination of hand applique and machine piecing. Kay Walen says, "I chose this pattern as a challenge for my needle turn applique, machine piecing skills and visual appeal."  We took several closeup photos of Kay's beautiful blocks starting with Santa's sleigh, below, which is embellished with embroidery thread and beading.

We also loved the adorable gingerbread couple with their peppermint buttons and rick rack trim in the (see the photo below).

T The red and green plaid fabric makes a wonderful sashing to tie all the blocks together.  The truck hauling the Christmas tree (below) is even made from truck-themed fabric. We also enjoyed the lovely quilting by Whisper Stitch Studio.
