Over The Rainbow by Christine Mahon, quilted by Debbie Stanton

Christine Mahon used her collection of more than 50 batiks to make this quilt, which was entered in the Scrap - Duet category at the the 2020 Quilt Arizona show.  Christine says, "Precise cutting and sewing made the rainbows (fans) work." The brightest blues, yellows, and reds provide good contrast with the more muted hues and with the ivory background.  The fluted edge of the quilt is a great way to echo the shapes of the quarter-circle fans.

We were also impressed with Debbie Stanton's professional longarm quilting, which you can see in the closeup photos above and below.

Scrappy Chevrons

This gorgeous scrap quilt by Celeste Johnson was displayed at last year's Quilt Arizona show.  We love this quilt! The high-contrast fabrics really make the zig zags stand out, while the colorful dots and squiggles within the black prints tie in the colors of the squares in the alternating rows. What a great way to use up some really fun fabrics.

Stars and Sprigs

This gorgeous quilt by Nancy James was a blue ribbon winner at last year's Quilt Arizona show, and one of the most outstanding examples of this design we've seen. Alternating sawtooth stars with floral sprigs, and surrounded by a lush appliqued border, this quilt takes our breath away.

Stars and Sprigs by Nancy James, quilted by Jessica Jones

Nancy James says, "Kim McLean's designs always make me smile and I began this quilt top at a time when I needed a pop of positivity.  I love the exuberant sprigs offset by the variety of stars." The Stars and Sprigs pattern was inspired by an antique quilt made in the 1800s, made modern by Nancy's use of bright contemporary fabrics. This quilt won First Place in the Scrap-Duet category at the 2020 show. Examples of some of the brilliant fabric choices - along with Jessica Jones' expert quilting - can be seen in the closeup photo below.

Celeste Johnson says that she made this quilt using the Pineapple Tool Ruler by Gyleen Fitzgerald, along witha large collection of scrappy strings.  Celeste notes that the pineapple tool made the blocks easy to construct.

Dreamy Possibilities

This beautiful idyllic scene is an original art quilt made by Ruthann Fox. Her dreamscape features a pastel sky with puffy clouds, a bridge over a meandering stream, and flowering and green trees. The hills resemble mounds of ice cream swirls. The little farm house, positioned at the middle left of the quilt, looks like a lovely place to live!
