Secret Agent Quilt Along

Have you heard of the Secret Agent Quiltalong by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr at Modern Quilt Studio? Participants on six continents joined this fabulous mystery quilt project. While the “Mystery” part has concluded, quilters around the world are still making their own Secret Agent quilts.We spotted one of the finished quilts at a 2025 quilt show.

Secret Agent Quilt, made by Meg Silvern, quilted by Linda Powell   

Meg Silvern made this quilt during a sew-a-long with Modern Quilt Studio online, using theirpattern and designed the fabric.  Modern Quilt Studio is famous for their contemporary designs and transparency effects.  There are many more Secret Agent quilts to admire! Whimsical Vases by Monique Baczewski, quilted by Beck Coy Kindall 

This award-winning quilt is based on the elaborate Whimsical Vases pattern by Kim McLean (for a source, please visit Glorious Color).  Monique Baczewski says: "I am addicted to applique. So, I was very excited when a good friend texted me a picture of this pattern.  I had heard of Kim McLean patterns and her use of Kaffe [Fassett] fabrics. I had so much fun making this quilt."  

The quilt show attendees were fascinated by the beautiful applique and quilting, as shown in the above photo (we had to wait a while for the crowds to clear!)  We took numerous closeup photos of the beautiful applique work (enjoy!)

Stone Log Cabin, made and quilted by Ann Martinez  

This quilt was based on the "Stone Log Cabin" pattern in Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Italy. Ann Martinez says, "My inspiration came from my stash of Kaffe Fassett's fabrics... I only had enough fabric to make a wall version of the pattern."  We love the color combinations and black-and-white accents!

 Shadow Block Illusion, made by Gail Witt, quilted by Jessica Jones 

Gail Witt says, "I used my extensive collection of Kaffe fabrics for my Shadow Block quilt.  The optical illusion of a shadow provides depth and dimension.  Jessica (Jones)' straight line quilting is the perfect complement to the design.  The quilt was based on the 2015 Shadow Block online tutorial by Debora Exum.

Midnight Sensation by Yvonne M. Flores, quilted by Quality Quilterz

This quilt has a fascinating kaleidoscope effect! Pattern for this quilt was a mystery quilt by Michelle Renee Hiatt (the Holiday Sensation Medallion Series 2022).  Yvonne Flores says this was her first Mystery Quilt!  "I decided to purchase the kit because the outcome was unknown.  The class was taught by Joyce Holley.  Piecing was done using the Studio 180 precision rulers to achieve perfect points."

Color Garden, made and quilted by Jana Knutson  

Bring on the color in this garden of trees and flowers! Some of the "branch" fabrics blend with the "tree" fabrics, while others have a strong contrast. The overall effect comes in and out of focus as you look at the quilt. Horizontal bands were created by grouping blocks with similar colors. Jana Knutson says that Color Garden was based on a quilt design called Arboretum by Springleaf Studios.  

Queens Cross by Elizabeth Sonnenfeld, quilted by Quality Quilterz 

This stunning New York Beauty-style quilt was based on the Queens Cross pattern by Jen Kingwell. We love the color combinations, spiky points, and contrasts! Elizabeth Sonnenfeld says, "This pattern really appealed to me, especially using colorful Kaffe Fassett fabrics.The process of making the blocks was longer than usual but very enjoyable." Check out the teal blue and olive green combination below!

Hot Tucson Nights, made and quilted by Linda Cote  

Wow, this quilt is as hot as the summer nights in Tucson, Arizona! So many wonderful fabrics were used. The orange and red blocks are interspersed with pops of blue and purple, providing a respite and focal points for the design. Linda Cote says that Hot Tucson Nights was based on a "Scrappy Surprise" pattern by Virginia Robertson Designs.
