Modern Quilt Month: Paradox!

See how many blocks you can name in this fun modern sampler! We love the bright solid fabrics which contrast nicely with the pure white background. The negative space gives this design an open, airy feel.

Kimberly Zody won a second place ribbon for this fun modern sampler quilt! She says, "For my first foray into modern quilting, I took an online Quilt Maker Academy class by Brigitte Heitland. The fabrics I selected were curated to follow the guidelines of incorporating solids with the use of negative space. I drew my inspiration from a pattern by Zen Chic Designs and modified it to fit my vision for this quilt."

Solstice

Are you ready to celebrate the longest day of the year? The summer solstice occurs on June 21st. Here's a stunning modern triangle quilt based on the Solstice design by Rebecca Bryan.  This quilt was made and quilted by Kimberly Zody, who named it after the sunrise & sunset of the Sonoran desert.

Sonoran Sunburst, made and quilted by Kimberly Zody

Kimberly Zody says, "Our gorgeous Tucson [Arizona] sunrise and sunsets were my inspiration for the fabric colors and design of this quilt, made entirely from paper pieced triangles. The techniques and ideas are from Rebecca Bryan's book, "Modern Triangle Quilts."  Kimberly quilted this piece herself [at Jean Firestine's studio.]

Kimberly added embellishments to create the sparkle and texture of Sonoran Desert flowers.
