Morning Glories

We enjoyed this large and sunny quilt, composed of blue, orange, and yellow kaleidoscope blocks.  Our favorite bird is the hummingbird, which is the highlight of this large and sunny quilt.

Sunny Morning Glories, made and quilted by Julie Hallquist

Julie Hallquist explains that this is a panel-based one block wonder quilt, celebrating the morning glory and the hummingbird who enjoys its nectar.  Each kaleidoscope block is a work of art!  The quilt was based on One-Block Wonder panel quilts by Maxine Rosenthal. This such a creative application of this technique.

Posy Park, made and quilted by Linda Cote

This fabulous creation was based on the Posy Park design by Kathy Doughty.  Winner of a blue ribbon, Linda Cote began the project in a workshop at Empty Spools.  The quilt is resplendent with flowers, pieced and appliqued birds and wedding ring blocks, done in bright colors and prints that remind us of spring. Various Kaffe Fassett fabrics were used to great effect.

The award-winning applique work and quilting was all done by Linda Cote.

Lollypop Trees

"April is the sweetest month of the year, the mellow season of rebirth and renewal." This quote by Mary Sojourner reminds us of the promise of spring.  And there is nothing more springlike than this "lollypop tree" quilt, which showcases Kaffe Fassett's cheerful fabrics!

Left-over Lollypop Trees by Pat Morris

Pat Morris based this wonderful quilt on the Lollypop Trees pattern by Kim McLean.  Pat says, "It is hand appliqued using Kaffe Fassett fabrics in my stash. I made a larger quilt and had six left over blocks." She alternated cool and warm color blocks for a harmonious design.

Per Kim McLean, the inspiration for this quilt design was a photograph of an antique red and green quilt.  The design looks totally modern in these cheerful fabrics!  Pat Morris did the quilting as well. This quilt won honorable mention at the 2024 Tucson Quilters Guild show.
