Celebrate Childhood

The imagination of childhood is expressed in today's featured quilt. Designer and maker, Cole Whitaker, created a baby dragon emerging from its shell, ready to greet the world. It's the perfect size for a baby quilt. (Scroll down for information on this foundation-pieced pattern!)

Baby Dragon, 40 x 60", by Cole Whitaker (Snohomish, Washington, USA)

Cole Whitaker explains that this quilt was designed around the colors of a fat quarter bundle. "It made me think of a baby blanket. I created a design of a baby dragon hatching out of its shell because I wanted a magical creature that represented the imagination of childhood."  The quilt is constructed in 5" blocks.

Cole has earned multiple awards for his quilts and built a thriving practice that includes teaching, custom quilt creation, longarm quilting services, public speaking, and original pattern design. As of this writing the Baby Dragon pattern is available on his website, Cole's Quilts, where you can find information on all of his quilts, patterns, and the latest quilt along!
