Home Sweet Home, 12 x15" by Bev Taylor, Out of the Boxers Friendship Group, Amador Valley Quilters
The Gingerbread House mini-quilt was exhibited by the Out of the Boxers, a group of art quilters in the Amador Valley Quilt Guild of Livermore/Pleasanton, California. Starting in 2008, the group dedicated themselves to creating something challenging, different, and creative, while exploring many new techniques.
Throughout the year, they chose different themes for their quilts, taking about 8 weeks to design and sew each quilt. As you can see, their dedication produced some wonderful results, such as this detailed and charming gingerbread house, complete with an ice skater sporting a candy cane scarf in the lower right-hand corner.

We especially love the round peppermints and half-circle lace which create the scalloped roofline, and dot the top of the chimney, the two candy canes which stand sentry-like at the front door, and the peppermint and holly landscaping at the side of the house. This adorable home, silhouetted against a starry night sky, seems to exemplify everything that is cozy and endearing about the holiday season. We hope you also have many cozy moments this winter !
